Hofburg Vienna

Europe’s first adress

Vienna is one of the most popular congress cities in Europe with a long and rich tradition.

In 1918, the function of the Hofburg as an imperial residence ended with the surrender of the Habsburg family to the throne. Until 1950, the halls were used for various balls and concerts. The modernisation of the rooms to use the Hofburg as a convention centre started in 1958 and was completed before the 2nd General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency took place.

In 1969, the management of the Hofburg was taken over by the Wiener Kongresszentrum Hofburg Betriebsgesellschaft which signified a restart for the historical building.
To a large extent the halls remained in their original condition. Equipped with the latest technology, the Hofburg is now the venue for congresses and many other events.

Vienna

Vienna – the city of the composers – offers many places of interest: From the splendid palace Schönbrunn to the Prater and the topical architecture in the Museumsquartier up to the traditional coffee houses.

Visit palace Schönbrunn – the former summer residence of empress Sissi. The site lures with an enchanting park scenery, a labyrinth, a palm house and a zoo and was nominated as UNESCO world cultural heritage. Spend the day in one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Europe and glance at the ceremony rooms and the magnificent drawing rooms.

Vienna Prater, fairground and landmark of the city, offers many attractions. A big wheel allows a dreamlike look over Vienna from a 65-metre height and belongs to the most visited sights in the Danube metropolis. Furthermore, an attractive area with fairy tale and legendary figures and the flight simulator “Vienna Airlines” setup in 2008 awaits you.

The Museumsquartier, THE exciting art area of Vienna, allures not only with prominent museums like the Leopold Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Kunsthalle – a lively bar scene makes the district even more attractive and invites you to take a stroll.

In the Old Town of Vienna, you will meet the Viennese coffee house culture in its most original form. The traditional coffee houses have a variety of coffee specialities on offer: From “Wiener Melange” to “Kleiner Brauner” and “Großer Brauner” up to the famous “Einspänner” for you to enjoy.
